Match Profile: Laura and Alisa
Date: December XX, 2020
Big Sister Laura and Little Sister Alisa have just celebrated their 1-year match anniversary! During the first year of their friendship, they have stayed busy doing various fun outings and working together to help Alisa improve her grades. Some of their favorite activities have included a pottery painting class, a tie-dyeing craft project, and making home-made slime. They have also spent some time at the library to improve Alisa’s school performance and working towards her long-term goal of graduating high school and attending college.
During the COVID-19 shutdown, the match did not miss a beat and their friendship was actually able to flourish by staying in frequent contact with each other over messenger, texting, and phone calls. Once in-person outings were allowed again, they continued working on Alisa’s schoolwork and even had the opportunity to carve pumpkins together. Additionally, Alisa has been able to show off her cooking skills under Laura’s watchful and safely-distanced guidance.
Laura conveyed some wonderful strengths that she has seen in Alisa such as being, “very caring, confident with her peers, and comfortable and open with me.” Alisa said that she really enjoys, “the whole experience because Laura gives great advice and always helps!”
During a recent match meeting, Alisa’s mother spoke highly of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry as a whole and shared that she really likes the program and feels that the agency, “did a great job in their COVID response and trying to keep the matches safe with the guidelines.” We are so glad the pair has stayed close during the shutdown and that they are finally able to enjoy safe outings together again!
