Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry is committed to protecting the privacy of its constituents, whether collected through the internet or in some other manner. BBBSL does NOT sell, trade, or rent your personal information to others. BBBSL may transfer some information to our agents for purposes such as clearing credit cards, or analyzing traffic to enhance your online experience, but always under strict confidentiality. The only time we would release personal information outside the provisions of our privacy policy is if we conclude, in good faith, that it is necessary to comply with legal requirements, to enforce our rights or to protect BBBSL, you or our other constituents.

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of requirements designed to ensure that all companies that process, store or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment.  TUW and our credit card processing vendors all meet these standards.

 

Frequently asked questions

What personal information do you collect?

When you make a pledge, BBBSL collects your name, e-mail address, mailing address, phone numbers, and if you are paying by credit card, credit card number, the card's expiration date and the security code on the back of the card. This information is required by our third party processor, ZuriGroup, and is not sent back to or maintained by BBBSL and does not reside at www.bbbslowcountry.org or www.wedefendpotential.org or on its server.

When you enroll for our e-newsletter, you are only required to provide your name and email.

 

How may I update my personal information?

If at any time you believe the information collected by BBBSL is incorrect, inappropriate, or has become outdated, simply contact us to have your information changed.

 

How does our constituent database work?

BBBSL retains information provided by constituents in a securely. This database of information may be used to verify donation transactions, thank supporters for their contributions, communicate with constituents about upcoming events or announcements, or to solicit future donations. BBBSL understands that most people do not want a lot of mail or e-mail, so we keep our communication frequency within reasonable limits. You may be removed from our database at your request. All information is secure and credit card information is not held in this database. 

 

What consent am I providing?

By using our website (www.bbbslowcountry.org or www.wedefendpotential.org) to make a gift, or by providing us with any other personal information, you are consenting to the collection and use of this information by BBBSL.  All amendments to our privacy policy will be noted at this URL so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.

DONOR BILL OF RIGHTS & EDONOR BILL OF RIGHTS

BBBSL staff will endeavor to adhere at all times to nonprofit development industry best practices and has adopted the following Donor Bill of Rights as published by the international Association of Fundraising Professionals (https://afpglobal.org/donor-bill-rights).

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

  1. To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
  2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  3. To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements.
  4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
  6. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
  8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
  9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.
  10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

BBBSL staff will also endeavor to adhere at all times to the  eDonor Bill of Rights outlined below, also published by the international Association of Fundraising Professionals (https://afpglobal.org/principles-edonor-bill-rights).

“The eDonor Bill of Rights is intended to complement the original document and provide further and more detailed guidance for the new world of online giving. In addition to the rights outlined in the Donor Bill of Rights, online donors should demand the following of their online solicitors:

  1. To be clearly and immediately informed of the organization's name, identity, nonprofit or for-profit status, its mission, and purpose when first accessing the organization's website.
  2. To have easy and clear access to alternative contact information other than through the website or email.
  3. To be assured that all third-party logos, trademarks, trust marks and other identifying, sponsoring, and/or endorsing symbols displayed on the website are accurate, justified, up-to-date, and clearly explained.
  4. To be informed of whether or not a contribution entitles the donor to a tax deduction, and of all limits on such deduction based on applicable laws.
  5. To be assured that all online transactions and contributions occur through a safe, private, and secure system that protects the donor's personal information.
  6. To be clearly informed if a contribution goes directly to the intended charity or is held by or transferred through a third party.
  7. To have easy and clear access to an organization's privacy policy posted on its website and be clearly and unambiguously informed about what information an organization is gathering about the donor and how that information will be used.
  8. To be clearly informed of opportunities to opt out of data lists that are sold, shared, rented, or transferred to other organizations.
  9. To not receive unsolicited communications or solicitations unless the donor has "opted in" to receive such materials.
